Ot Louw (1946), Dutch film editor, co-owner of the film editing company Het Materiaal (“The Material”; that closed its offices this year) in Bussum and author of several books on film: “A cameraman and an editor are in fact, equally subservient.  They both try to grasp and understand what a director wants, and use their own knowledge to achieve this. That is their job, their function. And you have to want that, if you work in this field. If you cannot be subservient, then you shouldn't work in that area.”

Film editor Ot Louw in his editing room: “I have often noticed that the first choice that you make is always the best one. Unless later on you want to cut it in a totally different way, and cut it in short pieces; that the sentence in scene 3 was maybe better...that can of course happen. If you initially think of showing the first three sentences in that one shot, and later do the close-up and so on, those are other circumstances. And that sometimes changes a lot. But often, some parts from my first version have survived, and they remained the same until the end!. Sometimes you try things out. Is it better to cut this scene in two and put the other one in the middle? Or maybe put the scene completely in front, in such a way that the other scene has even more tension. You are always making this kind of changes. But that does not mean that a scene changes in its nature, after undergoing a process of editing. Op REDtalk -- de ontmoetingsplek voor digitale camera gebruikers -- zijn verschillende Arri Alexa testverslagen te vinden. Afgelopen week verscheen er een inventarisatie van de Alexa workflows. Uit de inleiding: "Draaien met de ARRI Alexa bied nogal wat mogelijkheden kwa workflow. Omdat de ProRes optie officieel nog niet beschikbaar is, moet er naar alternatieven gezocht worden. Hier een poging wat te inventariseren en te vergelijken."
